Andy Maunder

"To enhance my skills and behaviors within my new career path I decided to do an apprenticeship."

Andy had always been ambitious in his career, and his move to the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel as a Health Club Manager was no exception. However, after some time in the role, he realized that he wanted to explore a new career path in Human Resources. This desire led him to transfer into the role of HR Officer, where he could develop his skills and behaviors in this field. 

To enhance his knowledge and progress his career further, Andy decided to pursue a higher apprenticeship. In November 2020, he began his Level 5 CIPD apprenticeship, which he successfully completed in June 2022. Throughout the apprenticeship, Andy gained a wealth of skills and knowledge, which has helped him progress to the role of HR Manager at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel. 

Andy is determined to develop his skillset further and is ambitious about his future in Human Resources. That is why he is looking to start his Level 7 CIPD Apprenticeship in the near future. His ultimate goal is to become the Director of HR, a role that he is confident he can achieve with hard work and dedication. 

Andy's story is a testament to the value of apprenticeships in professional development. By undertaking a higher apprenticeship, he was able to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to progress his career and achieve his ambitions. As he continues to develop his career, he will undoubtedly inspire others to follow in his footsteps and pursue their professional dreams. 

Joel Stallion

"Having recognised qualifications will support the skills that I have gained through my years supported by Marriott."

As the Engineering & Loss Prevention Manager at the Twickenham Marriott Hotel, Joel takes great pride in ensuring the hotel's technical systems function efficiently and the safety of guests and employees. He is currently completing a higher apprenticeship and is constantly seeking to improve his skills and knowledge to excel in his role and further his career. 

Joel began his leadership journey by completing the ILM Level 3 for Supervisors and Managers in June 2019. The onset of the Covid-19 pandemic led to a temporary pause in his studies, but he remained committed to his professional development and finally completed the course in April 2022. 

Currently, Joel is enrolled in the ILM Level 5 Operational / Departmental Management course, which is slated to conclude at the end of 2023. The course has proved to be a challenging yet rewarding experience, providing him with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance his leadership skills. 

Through this course, Joel hopes to gain a deeper understanding of managing multiple teams at various hotels. His ultimate goal is to utilize the principles and practices learned to improve hotel operations and put himself in the running for the role of an Area Director. 

Joel firmly believes that the knowledge and skills he has acquired through his qualifications, in conjunction with his experience with Marriott, position him as a strong candidate for any leadership role. The opportunity to lead and develop his associates is something that motivates him and is central to his professional goals. 

Paul Symes

'I feel I have learned a great deal from the apprenticeship, and it has both benefit to both me and the business.’ 

Paul is an ambitious employee of JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London, who is currently pursuing an advanced apprenticeship program, which is a level 3 qualification. It will take him 16 months to complete. He chose to undertake this apprenticeship to gain a comprehensive understanding of the hotel industry, with a specific focus on Marriott and customer service. As the apprenticeship progresses, Paul is consistently learning and expanding his knowledge base, which is benefitting not only himself but also the hotel business. 

Numerous outside-of-work commitments have helped him establish himself as a concierge. his perseverance has enabled him to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience that he can apply to future endeavors. One of his aspirations is to work in hotels abroad to gain exposure to diverse cultures and customs and further expand his industry knowledge. 

The advanced apprenticeship has equipped Paul with a range of practical skills that will be useful in his future career aspirations. By the end of the program, Paul will have gained A-level equivalent qualifications, which will make him a valuable asset to the world of hospitality. With his newly acquired skills, knowledge, and experience, Paul is confident that he will excel in his future roles and contribute positively to the hotel industry. 

Greenkeeping

Do you enjoy the great outdoors? Then a Greenkeeping apprenticeship is the perfect role for you! You will learn how to prepare and maintain the course to the highest standard offering a great playing surface on greens, tees and fairways.  Learn to operate a wide range of golf course machinery, spraying and disease control and learn from our experienced greenkeeping team as well as having the opportunity to play and learn the game on your own course! The perfect way to tee off your career!

Ready, Set Grow.  A Fitness or spa apprenticeship will help you flourish, whether you want to help some reach their fitness goals or help someone relax with a memorable treatment you will help create the best customer experiences for our members and guests.  You will receive the best personal development and work alongside a mentor to get your career off the starting block.

Food & Beverage

Put your personality and passion to work with a Food and Beverage apprenticeship. From Restaurant to bar and In-room dining, you’ll make sure you know every dish and drink on the menu, so you can make recommendations and answer any questions customers may have. You’ll make sure their food and drinks are served quickly, efficiently and with a smile - and if there are any issues, you’ll deal with them right away. Thanks to you, our guests will feel well-fed, happy and wanting to come back for more.

Human Resources

Passionate about people? So are we! Join our team as a Human Resources Apprentice and help support our most valuable asset – our people.  No two days are the same, you’ll help to recruit and train our future stars, promote health and well being within the work place and learn the statutory procedures along the way.  We think you’ll be the perfect fit.

Culinary

No Kitchen experience? No Problem. Our Culinary apprentices start learning right from the get-go. Train on the job from top chefs, using the best ingredients and the latest techniques.  You will learn everything from cooking the perfect breakfast, to the juiciest steak or a themed conference break to the finest banqueting dinner. Just bring your love for good food and we will do the rest.

Engineering

Put your personality and passion to good use with a maintenance apprenticeship, no two days are the same allowing you to learn a variety of trades from plumbing and painting to electrical.  Our training and mentoring will allow you to learn all the tricks of the trade whilst ensuring the property looks its best.

Finance

Maths Whizz? An accounting and finance apprenticeship will put your flair for figures to good use whilst gaining your AAT Qualification.  You will learn the tricks of the trade from reconciling journals and processing invoices to credit control and monthly profit and loss reports.  Turn your passion for data into purpose, whilst crunching the numbers that drive our success.  You plus Marriott, it’s a winning formula!
